The Sam Boon Quartet comprises some of the most sought after session musicians in Melbourne. Having all met when studying together at institutions such as the VCA and NMIT around 10 years ago, each member has forged a strong individual career in their own right with members having toured and studied extensively including in New York and the USA, Europe, The UK and Asia.
The “Saxophone Giants” project, especially commissioned for the Ballarat Winter Festival Jazz series 2018 will see the ensemble explore repertoire of some of the greatest Saxophone players of the 20th Century including Cannoball Adderly, Lee Konitz, Charlie Parker, Art Pepper, Benny Golson, John Coltrane, Kenny Garett and more. They will also feature some new original material inspired by the project. Sam is excited to be presenting this new “Saxophone Giants” concert in his home town and to be part of the 2018 Jazz Series for Ballarat Winter Festival.
